Using Data from Basketball-reference.com, I looked at how teams ranked according to regular season record and which teams won the championship. When looking at the data, I noticed that only 5 teams since 2000 had the Best Regular Season record, and Won the Championship. In fact, more teams that finished 3rd in the rankings won championships, than teams that finished 1st. Interactive visual below
